It was founded as an independent nation on January 26, 1901 and became a member Anzac Day- April 25th every year.

Their capital is Canberra and largest city is Sydney.

On February 6, 1942, Australia became one of the eight nations to sign the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.

This declaration states that all human beings have the right to freedom, equality, and justice.

On February 9, 1974, Australia became the first nation to give women the right to vote.

On June 11, 1982, Australia became a republic and changed its flag to include five stars representing each state and territory.

On January 26, 1971, Australia adopted its present constitution.

The preamble states that all citizens are equal before the law regardless of race, religion or gender; have a right to freedom of speech, religion and association; and have a right to due process in court under conditions of equality before the law.

The Constitution also states that no person can be deprived of their property without due process of law except in cases of public emergencies or trust crimes.

Additionally, any citizen can petition for a law to be overturned or amended through direct democracy.
